A Resolution in Support of Repealing the
State of California Democratic Party Assembly District Elections Fee
WHEREAS the Democratic Party of the State of California has a long and proud history of supporting equality for all and open Democratic processes and opposing measures that block access to the polls such as the former Poll Tax popular in many in southern states and curtailed by the passage of the 24th Amendment to the United States Constitution, and
WHEREAS the Democratic Party of the State of California imposes a fee, currently set at $5.00, upon each registered Democratic voter to participate in the Assembly District elections for delegate to the state convention even though such fee can be waived at the request of the voter although the act of requesting such as wavier is potentially embarrassing and discourages some from participating, and
WHEREAS the act of charging anyone to participate in an election -- even an intra-Party election -- is onerous and morally wrong as a matter of principle,
Therefore, be it resolved that the Northern Solano Democratic Club supports immediate elimination of any fee or other financial or monetary requirement to participate in Assembly District elections,
and
be it resolved that the Northern Solano Democratic Club supports alternative fund-raising efforts to replace the minuscule amount of money currently collected by such fees.
